At the end of 2017, Mars and I completed a six-week course to create a vision for our lives. We looked deeply into 12 categories to discover hidden beliefs and values and to clarify the purpose behind our end goals in each area. Of the many things we accomplished last year, creating a clear plan was probably the most life changing. I can't emphasize enough what creating a crystal clear vision for every area of your life will do. Yes, I'm free-spirited, and I live in a van full time, but being clear on my intentions has made all the difference. It's made making decisions and saying "no" so much easier. I now say "yes" to what aligns with my goals and "no" to the things that don't. It sounds so simple, but before putting it on paper, it was harder for me. Too many people go through life on auto-pilot. If you try to live differently, even if it is mildly stepping out of your comfort zone, doubt and fear will inevitably try to get in the way. You might not believe me, but I struggle with doubt and fear more than the average person. I'm afraid of heights. I'm afraid of mosquitos. I'm afraid of playing volleyball. I'm afraid of tipping over when our van is lightly off kilter. When things are risky, I would rather be safe than sorry. But how boring would our lives be if we let doubt and fear take the wheel?! I recently read the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, and it gave me such an amazing perspective on living beyond fear. Gilbert reminded me that fear is normal, and it won't necessarily go away...but you don't have to listen to it. There are times fear helps you, but those times are very rare. Most of the time, it will keep you in park and the ride of your life will be incredibly short-sighted. Getting clarity on the different categories of my life: parenting, career, love life, social relationships, finances, etc., and creating a big vision for how I want those areas to flourish helps me to put doubt and fear in the backseat, and to even shove pacifiers in their whiny mouths when necessary. If there is ONE thing you do for yourself this year, make a clear vision. Put it to paper. Then, look for the open doors every. single. day. And, never ever give up. Helping others push past limited mindsets and stirring new ideas in others has become such a huge passion of Mars and mine. We are currently creating a curriculum to help people realize their purposes and passions and to organize their biggest dreams into a roadmap. Because we love travel, we are calling this a Life Atlas. I'm taking my time to really make this as great as it can be and getting people on board to collaborate with their unique talents to add value to every area: your health, your mind, your relationships, your wealth/career, your end goals and creativity. Each week, we focus on designing one area and want to pull speakers/coaches/mentors together to help you achieve whatever you put your mind to. We want to make each "map" to every area of your life as valuable as it can be. I'm excited. We meet so many people who have big dreams. I want everyone to follow their own personal legends and realize their unique purposes. If you feel you'd be able to contribute to this vision, or want to be one of the people we take along for our launch course, please reach out. We will be giving an introductory price in exchange for useful feedback so we can continue evolving this experience into something incredible. Have an amazing week! Keep looking for the open doors, and say yes whenever you get the chance! |
